Abstract
Mobile training units, recently renamed mobile training detachments, are utilized in assisting the Air Force in the transition of qualified mechanics to the newest types of aircraft. Modifications are frequent in new aircraft and many of these must be reflected in the training devices as quickly as possible in order to keep instruction up-to-date. Although mobile training detachments have as their primary mission the development of knowledge within a military occupational specialty covering the various systems of aircraft, there are other Air Force training problems which also have been handled. The Department of the Air Force requested that 'a research study of means of improving the effectiveness of the Mobile Training Unit utilization be undertaken by the Human Resources Research Center.' More specifically, in the basic communication and in the several indorsements, it was requested that a study be made of various training devices employed by the mobile training units to determine their comparative effectiveness. It was not intended, however, that any comparison be made of the relative effectiveness of mobile training units as compared with other training organizations.
