Abstract
A modified composition NiAl + 5% Ni was produced from which bodies were successfully fabricated by powder metallurgical techniques. Properly hot- pressed bars of the NiAl + 5% Ni composition showed strengths in modulus of repture as high as 144,000 psi at room temperature and 68,000 psi at 980C. The air oxidation resistance of the modified NiAl + 5% Ni composition was excellent up to 1095 C; weight gains of the order of 1.25 mg/sq cm were exhibited after 300 hr of exposure. Heat-shock properties were considered satisfactory on the basis of both NACA tests and performance in the Air Force heat-shock apparatus.
