Abstract
-
Possible sources of noise in space vehicles are reviewed. Information is summarized describing the various fluctuating pressure fields that may exist at the vehicle exterior. The response of the vehicle structure to these pressure fields and the resulting radiation of noise to the internal spaces are studied analytically. The need for new theoretical and experimental knowledge in specific areas is emphasized. The effects of rocket engine noise on communication and hearing are considered in detail. General comments are made concerning vehicle and equipment design for noise control.
