Abstract
Homonuclear diatomic molecules are classified according to the ratio α=ΔH°0(vap.M)/D°0(M2). For transition elements ΔH°0(vap.M)A-BΣiεi (M). Σiεi (M) the excitation energy of the free atom to a set of electronic levels; a and b are empirical parameters. Experimental conditions for observing unknown homonuclear diatomic molecules of transition elements are estimated for α=2 and 5, using a calculated self-consistent set of free energy functions.
