Abstract
In a mass spectrometric investigation of the vapor in equilibrium with solid SnSe and solid SnTe, a number of reaction enthalpies were measured which combined with known thermochemical data yield:
Sn(s) + Se(s) -> SnSe(s) ΔH°298,f(SnSe)= -19.9±2.0 kcal/moleSn(s) + Te(s) -> SnTe(s) ΔH°298,f(SnTe)= -14.5±2.0 " SnSe(g) -> Sn(g) + Se(g) D°0(SnSe) = 95.0±3.0 "SnTe(g) -> Sn(g) + Te(g) D°0(SnSe) = 79.8±3.0 "Sn2Se2(g) -> 2SnSe(g) ΔH°298,dim(SnSe)= 45.6±5.0 "Sn2Te2(g) -> 2SnTe(g) ΔH°298,dim(SnTe)= 46.8±6.0 "SnTe2(g) -> Sn + 2Te(g) ΔH°298,at(SnTe2)= 124.1±4.0 "
The dissociation energies are compared to the available spectroscopic data.
