Abstract
A method is developed capable of incorporating the scatter observed in crack growth data into component residual life analyses, such as used in damage-tolerant and retirement-for-cause concepts. Two fracture mechanics-based statistical models for fatigue crack growth damage accumulation in engine materials are proposed. These are based on synergistic fracture mechanics models: a hyperbolic sine crack growth rate function and a linear crack growth rate function of the Paris type.
