Abstract
The basic parameters relating the pack-siliconizing of V-base alloys are being investigated with the objective of optimizing protective capability and reliability. Coating time, temperature, and the effect of double processing are being evaluated and relationships drawn to the accompanying oxidation resistance and reproducibility. Oxidation behavior and other properties of compounds based on (V, Nb) Ni2, (V, Nb) Ni3, (V, Nb) Co2, and (V, Nb) Co3 were studied at 2000 and 2200 F. Cobalt-containing compounds had relatively poor oxidation resistance, whereas most of the nickel-base compositions exhibited low weight changes.
