Abstract: Current airframe structural integrity test requirements are reviewed and the necessity for full-scale rather than component testing is briefly discussed. Trends in test complexity and cost are presented which show that as environmental simulation parameters become more demanding, large aerospace vehicle full scale testing becomes economically prohibitive. The application of component testing or modeling techniques as a solution to this problem is discussed and suggestions for needed research are presented.
