Abstract
Internal damping in metal matrix composites (MMC) is of interest to engineers and designers of large space structures, in applications where dynamic dimensional stability is important, and in the control and damping of vibrations in space structures. Theories of current
interest used to understand and explain internal damping in MMCs are discussed briefly, and experimental data for some fibers and MMC systems are presented. Some general conclusions close this paper.
